Piya Tan: Dharma teacher, meditation therapist, writer, translator.<\/p><\/div>\n

Piya Tan<\/strong><\/span>, who works on the Sutta Discovery Project, and teaches them, was a former Theravada monk<\/strong> (Piyasilo) for 20 years. Today he is a full time lay Dharma teacher specializing in early Buddhism<\/u>. He was consultant and regu\u00adlar lec\u00adtur\u00ader to the Buddh\u00adist Studies Team (BUDS) that success\u00adfully introduced Buddhist Studies in Singa\u00adpore Sec\u00adondary Schools<\/strong> in the 1980s. After that, he was invited as a visiting scholar to the University of California at Berkeley, USA<\/strong>. He has written many ground-breaking and educational books on Buddhism (such as Total Bud\u00addhist Work<\/em>) and social surveys (such as Buddhist Currents<\/em> and Charisma in Buddhism<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n

As a full-time Dharma teacher,<\/strong> he runs Buddhist, Sutta and Pali class\u00ades like the basic Pali course series<\/u>, the Sutta Study Group<\/u> (NUSBS), Dharma courses<\/u> (the Singapore Buddhist Federa\u00adtion), Sutta Discovery classes<\/u> (Buddhist Fellow\u00adship and else\u00adwhere), and Sutta-based (including meditation) courses (Brahm Educa\u00adtion Cen\u00adtre), besides his own full-time Pali trans\u00adlation and research project<\/strong>, the Pali House, and doing a compara\u00adtive study of the Pali Nikayas and the Chinese A<\/u>gamas<\/u>. As a Theravada monk, he learned insight meditation<\/u> from Mahasi Sayadaw <\/strong>himself in the 1980s. As a lay teacher, he learned forest meditation<\/u> from the Ajahn Brahma\u00advamso<\/strong>. He has run numerous medi\u00adta\u00adtion courses and retreats<\/strong> for students and adults (including non-Buddh\u00adists) since 1980s. In 1992, he taught meditation at the University of California at Berkeley, USA, and also to BP, JPMorgan, the Defence Science Organization, GMO, HP and SIA. He is doing all this for the love of Dharma and of Ratna and their two children.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
